Author, Gwen Ryder grew up in the suburbs of Melbourne, where travelling to School, the Pictures or the City, would always involve either Trams, Buses or Trains. After school, she studied teaching, and after a few years of teaching and working for the Civil Aviation Authority she was blessed with three beautiful and healthy boys. It was no surprise that they liked trains as well - especially since they were a Railway Family, travelling to wherever the government asked them to go.

She enjoyed reading books to children, and noticed one consistency - they all loved a story about a train. The story "Puffing Billy Back on the Rails" is the result of over 35 Years of retelling the story. In 1990, she published the story. The response was so great that she had it republished in 1995. This time it became a Best Seller, with over 15,000 copies sold. The second book in the Aussie Rail Tale series has been printed in September 2005. Gwen would like to thank the great many people who have encouraged her to share this story with the thousands of children who have now read it. Gwen is really pleased to receive feedback from families about her books.
